I have gotten frequent messages and inquiries about posting on social media that attract followers, views, and the desired audience. With that said, I decided to make this a blog post that hopefully answers a few questions you may have in hopes of better understanding social media, the algorithm, and expanding your brand awareness.
I believe there is no one right way to market or post on social media. The algorithms are all diverse and change frequently. However, I have gathered a few recommendations that will help you grow your Instagram and Facebook pages on a regular audience basis.
1. Post Frequently
If you want a consistent flow of new followers, likes, and views, it must start posting consistently. If you only posted once a month, most likely, the algorithm would not show your post in the Instagram feed, or your audience may not be aware that you are back from a social media fast. To gain brand awareness, you must post frequently.
2. What You Post Matters!
There is a catch to posting often. Only post what you feel led to share! I used to post on my art account multiple times a day with art or quotes I did not think reflected what my business is all about. I have found that quality over quantity is best.
3. Eye-Catching Images
You can have the best caption ever on your posts, but if you include a photo that is not eye-catching or ‘aesthetically pleasing’, then followers will never even read it. There are thousands of apps and programs that help create beautiful images to post at the touch of a button.
Here are a few free apps I recommend:
Canva: I have mentioned Canva before, and I cannot rave about it enough. I use it for all my blog graphics. There are hundreds of free templates, design concepts, and tools that you can use to help grow a clean and beautiful Instagram and Facebook page.
Unfold: This app is free and has hundreds of free Instagram story covers and templates. Perfect for engaging your audience!
Unsplash: Free beautiful images at the touch of the download button. If you are not into creating graphics, Unsplash is the program for you! You can type anything in the search bar, and related free pictures will appear; this is wonderful for Instagram reels!
4. Engage in Your Audience
Your audience is your following. Your target audience is who you want to attract to your page. Having an understanding of who your target market is will improve what content you post and how you go about it. In addition, when you gain new followers or receive new comments, engage in conversation! You want your following to feel like part of the business family. Their voices want to be heard, so communicate with them!
5. Learn When to Post
In addition to posting consistently, when you
post matters too. Find a time in the day or week that works for you, and post
then. Your following will know that “2:00 p.m. every Wednesday hjpdesigns
Instagram page creates a new post”. They will learn to expect new content, new images, and
new information to drop at a specific time every day or week. Consistency is key!
Listed below is a graphic I made of an algorithm that tells you the most profitable times to post Instagram reels. I found these are the best hours each week to post and have stuck to it for my art account.
BONUS... 6. Hashtags!
Believe it or not, hashtags help, even still today! You have a limit up to 30 hashtags per post. Be generic and unique with these, mix it up! This will market to your desired audience.
Examples: If you have an art page, try these. (These should change to accommodate your page and business.) Generic: #artbusiness #artist #painter Unique: #hjpdesigns #youngartist #oilpainter
Do you see the difference? Be free with hashtags, but don’t be afraid to use them regularly!
I
hope you find these tips helpful. Social media marketing is
continually changing. As I learn more professionally, I will continue to use my
resources and current knowledge to help others find their niche on all social
platforms. Do not be intimidated by the algorithm or similar accounts, stay true to your brand and your audience will grow naturally!
